August feels like a great month to learn about watermelons. We have been using them a ton this year and thought we would share with you a few tips about picking out a great one to take home. Here is your list of characteristics to look for and what each means:

– The creamy yellow spot is where a watermelon rests on the ground. The melon is ripe when you see that spot and the darker the better.

– Oblong shaped watermelons are more watery and round ones are more sweet.

– The melon should feel heavy no matter the size or shape.

– Webbing suggests a sweeter melon.

– A dried tail is a good sign. If it is green, it means the melon was picked too soon and will not be ripe.
